University Placement

We recognise that selecting the correct university and the most suitable course is vital for the future of our students. To assist in this process we evaluate the students' ability and guide them towards the most appropriate courses and potential universities that he should be shortlisting. This is done through group meetings initially and is followed up with individual career counselling and advice. Additionally each, student is given suipport, advice and time for preparartion of his personal statement (details about the student's background, academic achievements, aspirations and interests). These are reviewed and discussed with each student before being finalised.

The Director for Academic Studies provides comprehensive UCAS (University and Colleges Admissions Service) support, which guides and helps students to process their online application. The selection of the university and choice of subject is open to the student and is based on the student’s ability and career aspirations.

Finally students are encouraged to monitor the progress of their applications to the point of obtaining their final confirmed offers. The college monitors in this process to ensure that each student has managed to successfully obtain a university oif his choice. If necessary, students are given further support should they need it, to go through university clearing.

Each year universities are encouraged to visit the college and give students first hand information about the strengths and merits of each university and their course offerings. Typically 4-6 selected universities will visit the college in the year. In addition, students are encouraged to visit their selected choice of unviersity before making the final decision.

Admission Tests for Medicine

Entry to Medicine Courses require UKCAT and BMAT Tests. As competition for entry to medicine and related subjects becomes stiffer, universities are using additonal means to make final selection. The two main tests used for this purpose are:

  • UKCAT. This test has been in existance since 2006 and is a requirement for Medicine and Dentistry subjects. It is an aptitude test that is made of five areas: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, decision analysis, abstarct reasoning and non-cognitive analysis.  Further information can be obtained from their website at www.ukcat.ac.uk
  • BMAT. Bio-Medical Admissions Test is used by Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial and UCL for final student selection. Further details are available from www.bmat.org.uk

Cambridge Seminars provides guidance and support to students who need to sit these tests. As an option, we also offer comprehensive preparation for these tests so that students have a good chance of obtaining the required results.
